Memoirs endorsed by Oprah do not require honesty

The Smoking Gun disects James Frey's memoir, "A Million Little Pieces" and finds a snotty rich kid and a bunch of lies.

So for all you crack-head, drunk, meth fiends ... just so know ... you don't have to do bad stuff, just make a bunch of bad stuff up when you pen your best seller!

Personally, I find neither "crack-head, drunk, meth fiends" nor "snotty rich kid(s)" have interesting stories. A few episodes of Law and Order and you've heard them all.
Sharyn McCrumb writes interesting stories. Agatha Christie used to. Before Christie, there was F. Marion Crawford. All their stories are good reads the first time, and good reads again later on.
Just my two cents.
