Passing Posy

Our great Aunt died yesterday. She was 93. We only knew her briefly but in that time came to love her and will miss her a great deal. Here is a poem she published last summer in the newsletter for Aquidneck Place:

"John
by Posy Hall

John was a boy in my first grade.
At times, he was the plague.

So were the others...
But one discovers
There are certain flatteries
In being singled out by these.

But, somehow I can never think why
It was as a young soldier
John had to die.

Years later we were all in a chemistry lab
John did a "take-off" of me
dissecting a creb.

He imitated postures,
My attitude and faith,
The ways I tried cutting,
The grimaces on my face,
And the different cuts that I tried,
John had us laugh till we cried.

But, I can not tell as I might try
Why John had to die.

Years later, in an accident
When I got hurt
John was so gentle
Rubbing off blood and dirt.
He even made a bandage out of his shirt.

Graduation came, and then - an alert.
Though we had never had a proper date
With a hand on my shoulder
Came the one question, "Wait?"

Though wait I did
I can't know why
John, as a young soldier, had to die."

And one more:

"To Jenny, Twenty Years
by Posy Hall

Dear Jenny, it's a long time since you
were called away.
Perhaps to play on the Milky Way,
Leaping easily from star to star.
I long to know where you are.

Dear Jenny, it would be so sweet
To feel once more the weight of you
on my feet
Or to suppose the feel on my hand
The touch of your cold wet nose.

To my beloved Border Collie, Jenny"

Rest in Peace, Aunt Posy
Your bumblebee/butterfly

If you think Rove's been demoted think again

www.firedoglake.com provides excellent analysis of the Rove Rearrangement and all it means is bad bad news for the Dumbs. Bush's Brain is back on track to steal and connive through the interim elections.

As for Scotty ... How completely unexpected!
Not.

And as for putting in a talking head from Fox News ...
Makes sense for the current administration.

BTW: Where can we get the "I'm the decider" t-shirts?
How about business cards? Mayhaps we should write "decider" as occupation on our taxes.

Purity Balls

Digby is on fire with his coverage of the Purity Balls.
Guess that's why athletes have to hire (and rape) strippers 'cause all the little girls pledged themselved to their daddy's.

So what is the radical Christian right teaching us?
Good Girls
and
Boys Will Be Boys

We are a really sick nation.

Harlem grandmas hit the warpath over Iraq

The Decider is the The Deceiver

Took this from Talking Points Memo - oh were he just Joshing - but sadly this quote sounds stupid enough to have been uttered by the shrub...
Pres. Bush: "I'm the decider, and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

If we have said it once we have said it a thousand times: "What an idiot!"

Peace is the Question

Rumsfeld: a disgrace to this nation.

More to be proud of in NOLA

We bet the New Orleans Times Picayune would trade both of their Pulitzers to make Katrina never to have happened. But that is impossible and the Picayune deserves to be singled out for its courageous reporting under devastating circumstances.

Listen to your Elders

Hopi River Message
You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour.
And there are things to be considered:
Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your truth.
Create your community.
Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold onto the shore.
They will feel they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore,
Push off into the middle of the river.
Keep our eyes open and our heads above the water.
See who is in there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.
Least of all, ourselves.
For the moment that we do,
Our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones we've been waiting for.

No but really: Golf Courses as Wetlands

QD finds it so difficult to be an adult when other adults are such idiots. It feels like we are walking around in a scary and sublime farce. Were it fiction it would be funny ... but it's not...

The Bush Administration announced last week that the nation is no longer losing wetlands--as long as you consider golf course water hazards to be wetlands.

Republicans Welcome!

Dear Republican Friends:

We here at Queenie's Daughter understand your pain. You have been so devoted and loyal to your party and now that your party has betrayed you with lies, corruption and incompetence, you do not know where to turn.

You feel so many emotions now: rage, anger, shame - but most of all the confusion ...

Republicans, you have had it worse than we liberals, and for that we are sorry. We liberals watched in fear as our elections were stolen, illegal war was waged, and the laws of our land were violated every which way from Sunday.

But you believed! You sought out the best in human nature and rejected idea that people would steal, lie, kill, and attempt to destroy this country in the name of "God" for their own greedy ends.

You watched in horror as your retirements were stolen by friends of the President, but still you believed there was some mistake.

You watched in agony as your neighbors sat on the highway in the blistering New Orleans sun and in the darkness and chaos that was the Superdome and as all along the Gulf Coast homes were destroyed and lives were lost ... still you believed...

The President told you he was doing his best and that our missions were being accomplished, and oh dear sweet souled Republicans ... you believed.

But eventually the respect you had for your leaders turned to suspicion, that suspicion to doubt and that doubt to dawning realizations that you were duped and deceived.

What now? What next? Where do you turn? Who do you trust?

Oh darling little repugs, we dumbs don't damn you!
We mourn with you in silence, we grieve with you in solidarity.

We are all Americans now and as such we all feel the tremendous weight of democracy on our shoulders. We realize that we have been lied to and that the lives of our and our neighbors children have been the "capital" of a corrupt government.

But we can change this! We are the people and we have the power and now that we are working together - we can impeach this administration! We can get out of Iraq without abandonning our responsibilites! We can mend relations with our global neighbors that our arrogance threatened to shred and we can bring peace back into our lives back.

We can and we will now that you, our Republican friends, are with us.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

The Plame Game: Libby says Bush OK'd Leak

Mr. Libby is said to have testified that "at first" he rebuffed Mr. Cheney's suggestion to release the information because the estimate was classified. However, according to the vice presidential aide, Mr. Cheney subsequently said he got permission for the release directly from Mr. Bush. "Defendant testified that the vice president later advised him that the president had authorized defendant to disclose the relevant portions of the NIE," the prosecution filing said.

And then there was Bill Napoli...

SOURCE:http://minimumsecurity.net/toons2006/6034.htm
Tiara Tip: NancyK

Since women are too stupid and selfish to make up their own minds, God created Bill Napoli. Bill grew up in the wild, wild west when men were men and ladies were chatel. He thinks it should be that way again...
BILL NAPOLI: A real-life description to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life. //source//

BILL NAPOLI: When I was growing up here in the wild west, if a young man got a girl pregnant out of wedlock, they got married, and the whole darned neighborhood was involved in that wedding. I mean, you just didn't allow that sort of thing to happen, you know? I mean, they wanted that child to be brought up in a home with two parents, you know, that whole story. And so I happen to believe that can happen again. //source//

So call Bill, ask him stuff. Nothing is too trivial. He can help you since Gawd Knows little lady, you cannot help yourself. Welcome to the 21st Century!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yesterday, April 2, 2006 Queenie's Daughter took the opportunity to add another year to her age. The royal spouse betook his beloved on a shopping spree that ended in the acquisition of sexy sandals and lotsa linen.

The royal spawn and spawn-in-law drove up to Medford Mass where they were treated to a wonderful presentation of living history - A performance of Julia Ward Howe's Peace Work by by Jane Smith Bernhardt. The Medford Transcript has a great write up of Julia Ward Howe (much of which was generously albeit anonymously contribiuted by your truely!)

Now an older and somewhat wiser and much better dressed QD must apologize. Recenly she has been deluged with inane errands and errata and as a result has neglected her blog. But hear this:

Queenie's Daughter has finished being evaluated by ACKademia and so she should back to her regular observation posts.
